Big thanks to Chris, Alexis, Reuven, Amy and the other organizers of CloudCamp London. For me it was a real birthday trip: I managed to fall flat on my face in front of the 220+ delegates. I missed my footing on the stage as I went up to give my talk on cloud computing - ‘Cloud 9 or Terra Firma?’. The event was filmed too so I’m sure to be reminded of the gory scene soon. I’m trying to convince myself it brought a kind of humanist feel (err… humor?) to the proceedings.
CloudCamp London was an unqualified success – and CloudCamps in New York, Boston, Chicago, Berlin, Paris and London again are already forecast. Reuven’s got himself a ready-formed business here I think, though I’m sure he’s not interested in event organization and Enomaly’s next service line.
It felt like a First Tuesday gathering (minus media), not that I ever attended one, but with users, vendors, startups and VCs in the room it had what I imagine the First Tuesday feel was. Is this the beginning of a Third Wednesday club?
Several folks commented on the format: more open conference and fewer prepared remarks please seemed to sum it up. My view? Hey it’s a first outing and I know the feedback will have already been assimilated for the next event prep.
There was an interesting mix of folks from the grid world I already know – end users, ISVs, vendors and integrators/consultants. We’re showing up in the same cloudy venues regularly now. I’m even more sure that ‘grid, utility, cloud’ is a continuum. There were even more folks I didn’t already know, and it was good to be introduced to some of the cloud vendors I’ve not had a chance to catch up with. If anyone wants the report or preso deck, ping me and I’m happy to send along.
