Where does Xen play in the Linux Kernel?

, April 13, 2006 @ 3:20 pm ET

Stephen Shankland at CNET News.com just posted an article entitled, “VMware-friendly change likely for Linux“, regarding a move away from the standardization of Xen as the virtualization technology in the Linux kernel. This move seems to be due, in part, by lobbying from VMWare, a commercial provider of virtualization technology. An interesting tidbit from the article is that XenSource seems to be ok with this change. Playing fair or is this a battle it doesn’t want to fight (or can’t win)?

  1. Little bit of gossip for you: Jeremy Fitzhardinge started work at XenSource today. Until last Friday he worked at Paul Allen’s consumer set-top box company Digeo – which also employs Linux kernel maintainer Andrew Morton. Andrew and Jeremy met twenty years ago in Australia, when Andrew was selling a kit computer called the Applix and Jeremy was a 15-year-old hacker. They’ve been friends ever since.

How do I know all this? They were both at my wedding. Actually, Jeremy was the bridegroom.
