MySQL user conference
Rachel Chalmers, April 25, 2006 @ 9:00 am ETO’Reilly & Associates is having a crazy busy week. The company’s Make magazine took over San Mateo County Fairgrounds all weekend for its inaugural Maker Faire, featuring the Mythbusters, Segway polo and Satan’s Calliope, a fire-breathing robot. Today’s MySQL user conference (co-presented by O’Reilly) in Santa Clara won’t be quite so Burning Man, but the company does have some surprises in store. First up is an open API for pluggable database storage engines, already in use at Oracle and Solid Information Technology. Next is MySQL AB’s own transactional technology, based on the work it acquired with Jim Starkey and Netfrastructure. MySQL 5.1 is now in beta with new server functionality, MySQL Workbench is ready for preview and third-party partners are planning a dozen or so other announcements.
I was hoping to go but won’t be able to make it; I’m skipping the country to go and visit family back in Sydney, Australia. I’ll be back on Monday May 15th, just in time for JavaOne. Maybe I’ll see some of you there!
