Catching up with CollabNet

, May 17, 2006 @ 2:34 pm ET

CollabNet VP of marketing Martin Doettling dropped by our office on Monday afternoon to correct my erroneous impression that CollabNet’s growth has been sluggish or static. The company has used the same few reference accounts since I started tracking it years ago, and it recently introduced a lower-cost on demand option; understandably, I think, I leapt to the conclusion that no one was buying the software any more. Turns out topline and bookings have grown about 40% year on year and the company has signed four big names already this quarter; names that I am unfortunately not allowed to share with you. Why the wrong impression? Turns out CollabNet’s longtime and excellent marketing head Bernie Mills left the company last year, leaving a vacuum that is only now being addressed. CEO Bill Portelli acknowledges the need to get out more, so look for him at our Software Business Transformation Summit in June.
