Oracle to provide Red Hat support?
Raven Zachary, July 10, 2006 @ 9:48 am ETITP Technology published an article over the weekend, “Larry sets sights on Red Hat’s customers“, speculating that Oracle intends to provide its own operating system support services for Red Hat Linux. This would allow an Oracle database or application customer that has deployed on Red Hat Linux to obtain support for both the operating system and the database or application from one vendor – Oracle. Would Oracle also offer support for Red Hat Linux independent of its product line?
This has not been confirmed by Oracle, although the article states that this information is based on a briefing made by Oracle to journalists (but the details are a bit sketchy at this point). However, this seems to align with a Financial Times interview with Larry Ellison published in April (see blog post).
Keep your eyes on Oracle. Signs are pointing to additional open source announcements soon.
