Raven Zachary, September 25, 2006 @ 7:57 pm ET

As I mentioned in a prior post regarding the new Funding and M&A blog categories, there were a number of announcements over the past few weeks that were not covered individually. Recent M&A activity summary:

Breach Security acquires Thinking Stone and the ModSecurity (mod_security) open source project (press release)
Terms were not disclosed
2006.09.25

Pentaho acquires the Weka open source project from the University of Waikato New Zealand (press release)
Terms were not disclosed
2006.09.19

A comment on verbiage: an open source project cannot be acquired. The developers of the project can be, but not the project itself. If the project could be acquired it would not be open.

This is a debatable point, but I know where you’re coming from. I am reusing the wording from Pentaho’s own press release.
