When it rains, it pours

Red Hat has been busy for the past two weeks. First, it was “Unfakeable Linux” and now it’s “Unthinkable.” Last week, I said that the biggest loser from the Oracle announcement was Novell, not Red Hat. One week later, Novell partners with Microsoft and changes the rules. Oracle should be on the phone to Red Hat right now about a partnership announcement of their own. The last thing that Oracle and Red Hat should be doing right now is working alone. The enterprise Linux standards race has been accelerated. Who will be drawn into this next?!

One of the interesting issues to note this morning is that the market isn’t punishing Red Hat’s stock price - it dipped yesterday before the Microsoft and Novell announcement, but it has bounced back up. Is this ‘wait and see’ or does the market truly see the Microsoft and Novell announcement as less disruptive to Red Hat’s business than Oracle’s announcement last week?
