Protesting the patent agreement

Raven Zachary, November 27, 2006 @ 10:34 pm ET

Bruce Perens, co-founder of the Open Source Initiative (OSI) and an early free software advocate, has authored an open letter to Novell CEO Ron Hovsepian regarding the Microsoft and Novell patent agreement. Perens is asking for additional signatures to his open letter, as a petition. As of the writing of this blog entry, there were a total of 2,236 signatures collected. Not a ton of names so far, but this could easily grow 10x once the word spreads. Perens’ concerns relate specifically to the patent aspect of the collaboration agreement between Microsoft and Novell, and not the financial and technical deal points.
