Introducing Matthew Aslett

Raven Zachary, September 14, 2007 @ 9:27 am ET

I’m pleased to announce that Matthew Aslett will be joining The 451 Group on October 1st to further advance our open source research efforts. I will be in our London office during early October to work closely with Matt.

Many of you are already familiar with Matt’s work at Computer Business Review (CBR), and his open source blog at CBR Online. Starting in October, he will be blogging at 451 CAOS Theory, covering open source topics for our Market Insight Service (MIS), working on upcoming Commercial Adoption of Open Source (CAOS) Research Service reports, and participating in ongoing advisory work with our client base.

Matt’s addition to the team brings our open source research practice now to three ful-time analysts (Jay Lyman joined in early 2007), with occasional open source coverage from a number of other 451 analysts in various fields.

Prior to joining The 451 Group, Matt covered Linux and open source software, amongst other things, for monthly magazine Computer Business Review (CBR) and ComputerWire’s daily news service. Having joined ComputerWire in 2001 as senior analyst for enterprise infrastructure, Matt became deputy editor of CBR in 2003 before launching the magazine’s Open Source Weblog in January 2006.

Matt started in IT journalism in 1997 as staff writer with monthly magazine Unix and NT News, where he also served as news editor and deputy editor before becoming editor in 2000. He has also contributed to a number of other publications, including Unigram/X, IBM System User, JavaVision, Bluetooth World, Cable and Satellite Europe, and Mobile Communications International.

Matt holds a BA in Multi-media Journalism from Bournemouth University in the UK and will remain based in London.

Stay tuned for Matt’s blog posts in a few weeks.

Welcome, Matt!

I was pleased to hear about Matt’s move. I considered him overqualified for what he used to do. Keep up the stroming analyses, Matt.
